Walk on Spots

5 minute walk on spots will be available at Mates Rates Comedy RAW every Monday at Pentahotel Reading, RG1 7RH.

Walk on spots will will be allocated via a bucket pull. 

  • x4 5 minute walk on spots will be available at Pentahotel Reading, RG1 7RH every Monday

  • Sign up is between 6:30pm - 7pm. If you arrive after 7pm your name will not be put into the bucket

  • Spots will be allocated via a bucket pull. Bucket pull is at 7pm

  • If your name is not pulled from the bucket you don't get a spot, but you can watch the show for free

  • Performers must stick to their time.

  • If you are going to try for a bucket pull be prepared for the possiblility you might not get on

Progression at Mates Rates Comedy

Comedians who do well at our open mic might be invited for an open 10 spot on a Friday night.

Depending on how this goes you might be invited back for more open spots. Eventually you might be offered paid work.

Doing the open mic and progressing through open spots at Pegasus Comedy Club is how you progress to paid work at our club.

Progression takes time and unfortunately isn’t always linier - we are all muddling through!

If all this sounds like too much work we occasionally post adverts on the facebook comedy forums you can apply for directly.

Guidance for Performers

Your best way to be seen is always to work through the pathway set out above.

We very rarely book acts for our club nights from speculative applications.

We don’t book anyone who messages us on social media, or who approaches us personally on social media or at gigs. It is actually crossing a pretty important personal boundary so please don’t do this!

All messages relating to applying for spots need to go to matesratescomedyraw@gmail.com

  • Please indicate which show you are applying for and provide a selection of dates you are free.

  • Please indicate if you are applying for an open spot or paid work.

  • Please include relevant information, a bio, a video the length of the spot you are asking for (unlisted on youtube is the best format).

  • Please don’t try to be over familiar or funny.

  • The open mic is the only show that has walk on spots. Please do not just show up at a pro/semi pro night and demand to be put on.

  • We will delete any speculative applications to the business email (even if you have performed with us before). Please email: matesratescomedyraw@gmail.com
